1. Purpose of this Policy

Mango Discovery collects and manages information about tourism establishments so that relevant, accurate information can support the Mango Getaway destination ecosystem.

This Public Data Policy explains which types of establishment information may be treated as public, how that information may be used and how businesses can request corrections.

It should be read together with the Mango Discovery Terms & Conditions and Privacy Policy .

2. What we mean by Public Data

Public Data is establishment information that is reasonably intended to identify, describe, locate or help people interact with a tourism business.

Depending on the establishment, Public Data may include:

  • establishment name;
  • trading name;
  • business category;
  • country, region, destination and locality;
  • business address;
  • public telephone number;
  • public business email address;
  • website;
  • booking or enquiry links;
  • opening or operating information;
  • facilities, services and amenities;
  • general establishment descriptions;
  • languages offered;
  • public social or business links;
  • accessibility information;
  • relevant couple-travel attributes;
  • approved photographs or media where rights permit;
  • destination relationships; and
  • other information clearly intended for public business use.

Not every field submitted to Mango Discovery will automatically become public.

3. What is not Public Data

Mango Discovery separates establishment information from private account, security and internal information.

Information that is not normally treated as Public Data includes:

  • passwords and authentication credentials;
  • private account email addresses;
  • security information;
  • internal account identifiers where not intended for public use;
  • internal review notes;
  • duplicate-detection information;
  • verification evidence that is not itself public;
  • internal risk or moderation information;
  • private organisation communications;
  • legal acceptance evidence; and
  • other information classified by Mango Discovery as private or restricted.
A person’s login email can remain private even when the establishment’s public business email is visible.

4. Where establishment information comes from

Mango Discovery may receive establishment information from several sources.

These may include:

  • the establishment itself;
  • an authorised owner, operator, manager or representative;
  • an organisation connected to the establishment;
  • the establishment’s official website;
  • public booking or business channels;
  • public tourism or destination sources;
  • official registries or public business information;
  • Mango Getaway research and destination work; and
  • other lawful public sources.

Where practical, Mango Discovery may record the source or basis of important establishment information.

5. Public Data Permission

Where Mango Discovery asks an establishment or authorised organisation to submit information for public use, it may require explicit Public Data Permission.

Public Data Permission allows Mango Discovery to process approved establishment information for discovery and publication within the Mango Getaway ecosystem, subject to applicable policies and review.

The permission applies to the establishment and information covered by the acceptance.

Mango Discovery may keep evidence of:

  • which establishment the permission related to;
  • who accepted it;
  • the organisation relationship involved;
  • the version accepted;
  • the date and time of acceptance; and
  • other evidence required to maintain an auditable record.

Public Data Permission does not guarantee publication.

6. Review before publication

Information submitted to Mango Discovery is not automatically published.

Mango Discovery may review information for:

  • accuracy;
  • completeness;
  • destination relevance;
  • duplicate records;
  • appropriate business representation;
  • public-data permission;
  • rights issues;
  • consistency with other reliable sources; and
  • general suitability for Mango Getaway.

Information may remain unpublished while a review or correction is taking place.

7. How Public Data may be used

Approved Public Data may be used to identify, describe, connect or present an establishment within the Mango Getaway ecosystem.

This may include use within:

  • destination pages;
  • stay discovery;
  • experience discovery;
  • food and dining discovery;
  • wellness discovery;
  • transport and destination services;
  • Mango Getaway Gateway;
  • itinerary research and eligible itinerary experiences;
  • destination intelligence;
  • search and filtering tools;
  • maps and location features;
  • business contact or booking links; and
  • other relevant Mango Getaway products or services.

Mango Discovery may adapt formatting, field labels, categorisation or presentation so that information works within different Mango Getaway experiences.

8. Public Data and editorial content are different

Public establishment information does not automatically become a Mango Getaway recommendation or endorsement.

Mango Getaway may create its own editorial content, destination context, descriptions, recommendations or classifications.

Where appropriate, Mango Discovery may distinguish between:

  • information provided by the establishment;
  • information verified by Mango Discovery;
  • information obtained from public sources; and
  • Mango Getaway editorial content.

9. Accuracy and keeping information current

Tourism businesses change.

Establishments and authorised representatives should update material information when they become aware that it is inaccurate or no longer current.

Mango Discovery may also update, flag, restrict or review information where reliable evidence suggests that a public record is outdated or incorrect.

No public business database can guarantee that every item is current at every moment.

10. Corrections and disputed information

If information about an establishment appears incorrect, a business or member of the public may report it to Mango Discovery.

Mango Discovery may ask for supporting information before changing an important establishment record.

Where multiple people claim authority over the same establishment, changes may be held while the relationship is reviewed.

11. Information from public and third-party sources

Mango Discovery may use lawful public information to improve, confirm or maintain establishment records.

The fact that information is publicly available does not mean Mango Discovery will automatically publish or rely on it.

We may compare information from multiple sources when resolving discrepancies.

Third-party websites and services remain responsible for their own information and practices.

12. Photographs, logos and media

Media is not treated as freely reusable merely because it appears online.

Mango Discovery may require appropriate rights, permission or licensing information before using establishment photographs, logos, video or other protected material.

Establishments should only submit media that they are authorised to provide.

Media may be withheld from publication where rights are unclear, restricted, expired or disputed.

13. Removal, restriction and correction

Mango Discovery may remove, restrict or stop displaying Public Data where reasonably necessary.

This may happen where:

  • information is materially inaccurate;
  • the establishment has closed;
  • the record is a duplicate;
  • rights or permissions are disputed;
  • publication creates a legal or security concern;
  • the establishment relationship is being reviewed;
  • the information no longer meets Mango Discovery standards; or
  • another legitimate reason requires restriction.

Removing information from public display does not necessarily require deletion of the underlying historical or audit record.

14. Historical and audit records

Mango Discovery may retain historical versions, submission records, verification history, correction history and other governance records where reasonably necessary.

These records may help:

  • understand how a record changed;
  • resolve disputes;
  • prevent duplicate or fraudulent submissions;
  • maintain system integrity;
  • meet legal obligations; and
  • support audit and accountability.

Historical retention does not mean that outdated information must remain publicly visible.

15. Personal information and privacy

This Policy focuses on establishment information.

Personal information associated with a Mango Discovery account is handled under the Mango Discovery Privacy Policy .

A piece of information may require privacy protection even if it relates to a business.

Mango Discovery may therefore restrict or remove personal information that should not have been included in a public establishment record.

16. Changes to this Policy

Mango Discovery may update this Public Data Policy as the system, legal requirements or establishment data practices evolve.

The current version and effective date will be shown on this page.

Where a material change affects existing establishment permissions, Mango Discovery may request renewed acceptance before affected information continues to be used.
